Barcelona announce £31.7million signing of Clement Lenglet

Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet.

The French 23-year-old has penned a five-year deal after the La Liga champions activated his £31.7million release clause.

Lenglet rejected the chance to extend his stay at Sevilla after turning down a new contract.

The centre-back only joined the Spanish side from Nancy in 2017 and impressed in his debut season.

Barca announced the signing on Twitter with a bizarre talking football - just like they did after completing a deal to land Arthur.

Lenglet will now compete with Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique for a first-team spot in Barcelona's back four.

Barca are looking to make a number of big-money signings this summer in a bid to halt Real Madrid’s Champions League domination.

But the move could mean good news for Everton fans with the Toffees interested in Barcelona's Yerry Mina.

The defender starred for Colombia at the World Cup but has fallen down the pecking having failed to impress since his January move.

Boss Marco Silva is desperate to bolster his squad ahead of the new season and his prioritised improving his defence.
