Arsenal Close In On £17m Rated Borrusia Dortmund Defender Sokratis (Details)

Arsenal are close to signing £17m rated defender Sokratis from Borrusia Dortmund, according to reports.

Sven Mislintat, Arsenal's head of recruitment, has made defensive options his priority ahead of the summer in post-Arsene Wenger era.

The Gunners have yet to confirm the new boss to replace Wenger but Mikel Arteta is claimed to have agreed to join Arsenal to become the new manager but the club is yet to confirm the Rumours.

Sokratis a Borrusia Dortmund Defender has emerged as a top target for the Gunners and arsenal are closing in on a deal for the Greek international.

According to German Newspaper Bild, the 29-year-old will sign a two-year contract deal with the Gunners as Dortmund eye Abdou Diallo as his replacement. 

France U21 star Diallo has been fantastic this season for Bundesliga outfit Mainz and has attracted interest from top European clubs.

Arsenal's defence has been critised endlessly for a number of years and the club will be without Laurent Koscielny for at least half of next season due to Injury.

Sokratis who has spent 5 years at Dortmund, will be out of contract next summer and talks over an extention broke down last month.

Bild claim his move to the Emirates will cost the Gunners £17m.
